Acell: A Breakthrough In Male And Female Hair Loss Solutions

When people think of hair loss, they typically think of male pattern baldness. It’s true that many men suffer from alopecia, but women can also experience extreme thinning without becoming truly bald. Roughly 40% of patients struggling with thinning and balding are female.

For women and men who are not candidates for hair transplant surgery, we now have an exciting solution: ACell therapy combined with Hair Follicle Regeneration. Many patients want to know what is involved in the process of injecting ACell and Hair Follicle Regeneration, and they want to know how it works for treating male and female hair loss.

What Is ACell Therapy?

ACell is a stem cell therapy that activates stem cells in the hair follicles. It’s combined with Hair Follicle Regeneration which has multiple growth factors of its own to stimulate hair growth. The procedure is minimally invasive and can last for an extended period of time. Though the exact length of benefit has not yet been established, patients have experienced between a year and several years of increased hair growth.

Sometimes a series of booster injections are needed to maintain the improved growth and quality of hair. Most patients see great improvement in the quality of hair growth in the places where the hair was thinning within six months. At HT&RC, we are proud to offer ACell therapy to our female and male patients suffering from hair loss.

What Should I Expect During And After An ACell Procedure?

Acell and Hair Follicle Regeneration therapy is performed under local anesthesia. The scalp is totally numb, so there is no discomfort during the procedure. If the patient desires, a mild sedative like valium can be given prior to the procedure. There may be some swelling in the forehead over the next two to three days after the procedure, so the patient should plan their schedule accordingly.

There should be no scabs, scars, or visible signs of the injections immediately after the procedure. Aside from the forehead swelling for a couple days, there may be light bruising under the eyes. This is uncommon, but could begin the day after the treatment. This bruising should resolve within two to three days and there should be no obvious sign that anything was done. You can resume normal activity after two days.

The patient should expect to see new hair growth within six to eight months after ACell treatment. This is similar to the new hair growth seen after a hair transplant. Significant improvement has been seen after a single treatment in many cases, but the patient may require more than one treatment.
